The studio Memar during 2009 has had the plea- sure of being invited to the competition for the design of the masterplan for the future satellite city called Jeddah East. The approach of our team for this new project was to apply their methods of sustainable and bioclimatic architecture in a cotesto as that of ‘Saudi Arabia very particular in terms of climate. The elements that we con- sidered most important for an important role in the design of future city of Jeddah East were as follows: the direction of Mecca that is a point of reference for the entire Muslim world, the notice proposed by the axis that divides the city from new industrial l ‘identification of two large horizontal areas that can accommodate several important elements of the project, a green area that separates the residential from the industrial and working conditions. In our masterplan pro- poses two hearts (to the north and one south). These two nuclei are linked through a ‘main road that connects with the existing highway in Mecca. The main axis intersects with trails that are geared towards the holy city of Mecca. Our project idea is based on the principle of geom- etry and organic structure. The generator is the hexagonal form, which is the basic cell. The cell, depending on how you should go to aggregate, forming an ‘infinite variety of macrocells, which in turn shape the city, connecting existing natu- ral elements: water, mountains, desert. In the future, the city will have a flexible and extensible system for sustainable development in order to relate to the nearby cities or urban future. Each individual cell can be used for different destina- tions or may be a gap (not constructed) and de- voted to green area. The green areas have two functions: first, creating a microclimate that al- lows for natural comfort for the best people, and the other can become the strategic points where natural disasters occur.
Masterplan di Jeddah East

Jeddah Saudi Arabia
